Operational Differences in Kanaka Editions

Kanaka licenses are available in two editions, Standard and Enterprise. The edition type is embedded in the license file and determines several operational aspects of KanakaSC, and in turn, Kanaka clients.

Kanaka Standard Edition is available to those customers who want the base functionality of context-less authentication to eDirectory and automatic discovery and mounting of the user home directory on a Novell server.

Kanaka Enterprise Edition extends Standard Edition functionality to automatically discover and mount all collaborative group storage for the user. It includes integration with Novell NetStorage and eDirectory Storage Location Objects. It also includes advanced capabilities in the Kanaka Dashboard, such as preemptive password expiration warning.

It is important to note that all Kanaka trial licenses are generated as Enterprise licenses so that trial customers may leverage and experience the full capabilities of the product.

Kanaka Licensing Models

Kanaka for Macintosh is licensed by the number of machines on which the Kanaka client will be concurrently installed. In support of customers requesting various purchasing options, Kanaka for Macintosh licenses are available using either of two models.

Initial License Charge (ILC) with Yearly Maintenance and Upgrade Protection Licensing Model allows customers to purchase an initial license for the product and then pay a small fee each year for maintenance and upgrade protection beginning in year two (2). This licensing model allows customers to upgrade to new versions of the software at no additional cost during year 1 and in successive years as long as Yearly Maintenance and Upgrade Protection is paid and kept current.

Subscription Licensing Model allows customers to purchase and use Kanaka for Macintosh licenses on a yearly basis. Customers will receive product updates and version upgrades at no additional charge during the subscription period. This licensing model allows use of the software during the subscription period only.

All licenses purchased are based on usage within a single production eDirectory tree in an organization. Significant multi-tree discounts are available upon request.

All additive licenses purchased for a given tree must be of the same Edition (Standard or Enterprise) and must be based on the same licensing model.
